Description
This orange, bergamot, and ginger compote is made in Calabria using organic Tarocco oranges and bergamots grown in Bova Marina, Reggio Calabria, in the heart of the San Pasquale Valley, a stone's throw from the Ionian Sea and nestled in the hills on the slopes of the Aspromonte mountains.
The area is known for its citrus fruit production, which thrives here thanks to a perfect microclimate and exceptionally fertile soil. The Tarocco orange thrives in the Mediterranean climate, while the bergamot is grown in the tip of Calabria—the most suitable and exclusive natural environment being the narrow coastal strip stretching just over a hundred kilometers between Scilla and Monasterace.
Bergamot, also known as the " fruit of health " and considered a treasure of this land, is a highly fragrant citrus fruit with countless sensory and healing properties; it is a powerhouse of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and molecules beneficial to the body. The sweet flavor of orange mellows the sharpness of bergamot, and the fruitiness of ginger lends an aromatic taste and a zesty freshness.
